D.O. Allen Homes Raises Over $12,000 For The Make-A-Wish Foundation ®

October 29, 2007

Local builder D.O. Allen Homes held the inaugural Building Wishes 5K Run/Walk charity event on Sunday, October 14 to raise funds and help promote the objectives of the Make-A-Wish Foundationâ of Central and Western Virginia.  This organization grants wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.  The Make-A-Wish Foundationâ grants a wish every 41 minutes.

The cost associated with coordinating a wish varies depending on the type of wish, but on average the cost is about $6,000.  D.O. Allen Homes set a goal to raise enough funds to grant two wishes, and ended up exceeding their goal with a total over $12,000 raised.  100% of the event’s proceeds will go directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundationâ and will help deserving children in our local area.

“We applaud D.O. Allen Homes on their immensely successful efforts to touch the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through their Building Wishes 5k Run/Walk,” said Karen E. Webb, President and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundationâ of Central and Western Virginia.  “We are so pleased to be working with these good folks and look forward to a long relationship of granting wishes together.”

The race was held at Deep Run Park in Richmond, and over 100 adults and children between the ages of 10 and 70 participated.  The event began at 8:00 a.m. and followed a course that included paved and gravel paths to single path trails winding through the wooded park.  Following the race, prizes were awarded to top male and female finishers in each age group, as well as top three male and female finishers overall.

The level of support and commitment from sponsorships significantly contributed to the success of the event and meeting the fundraising goal.  Those who participated as sponsors included: Wendy’s, Independence Bancshares Mortgage Group, Northeast Siding, Palani Drive, Roper, Pepsi, C&F Bank, Moen, BB&T, Structured Cable, Richmond Academy of Massage, Richter Landscaping, Capital Waste Services, MidSouth Building Supply, Sign Design, Costen Floors, Meyer Georgen & Marrs, Construction Applicators, Richmond.com, Richmond Magazine, WRLH Fox Richmond, 98.9 Liberty, 93.1 Wolf, 107.3 Oldies, Homes & Land, Blue Ridge Floors, Apple Door Systems, BB&T Insurance Services, James River Exteriors, Commonwealth Commercial, and Commercial Construction Corp.
