D.O. Allen Homes Breaks Ground On New Waterfront Active-Adult Project

May 21, 2007

Local builder D.O. Allen Homes has broken ground on a project located on the Swift Creek Reservoir in Chesterfield County.  This 80-homesite project is named Heron Pointe, and will be a maintenance-provided, age-qualified community with a clubhouse, walking trails and various amenities.

Heron Pointe is situated on one of the last waterfront parcels on the lake, and the traffic entrance will be located on the south side of Genito Road, just west of Woolridge Road.  It will feature four models, two of which are newly designed for the project, and two that were introduced in D.O. Allen’s Richmond project Martin’s Grant at Old Gun.  Exteriors will be quality low maintenance materials, including brick, Hardie Plank® and stone.  Interiors will feature luxury finishes including hardwood and ceramic tile floors, stainless steel appliances, and granite kitchens.

The 2,040 square foot clubhouse will feature an open gathering space with a fireplace, and a shared open kitchen and bar, as well as a fully equipped fitness center.  Outdoor entertaining will be celebrated and encouraged on the side patio with a stone fireplace and outdoor kitchen and bar.  From the clubhouse, residents will be able to enjoy an intimate view of the lake, as well as walk down to a lakeside trail that winds around the community to a gazebo on a narrow peninsula of the property’s eastern shore.

“New research presented by the National Association of Home Builders’ 50+ Housing Council revealed that over 40 million households are headed by someone aged 55 or older as of last year,” said Kaki Zell, Director of Sales for D.O. Allen Homes.  “This demographic’s growing take on the marketplace is consistent in the local area, and D.O. Allen’s existing product line and experience is a perfect fit for meeting this specific housing need.”

Heron Pointe has already generated a significant amount of interest, and a waiting list has been compiled.  D.O. Allen plans to begin sales this summer.

Given today’s recent demand for lifestyle-centered communities, D.O. Allen Homes currently offers maintenance-provided communities The Terraces at Swift Creek, Martin’s Grant at Old Gun, Church Road Commons and Creekside Village in the Richmond area, and Legacy Oaks and Heritage at Wyndhurst in Lynchburg, Virginia.  Formed by native Virginian Donald Allen in 1978, the company has earned a reputation for quality construction throughout the state.  For more information on the company or its communities, visit www.DOAllenHomes.com.
